'Stone into poetry (Rilke): The Spirituality and Ministry of Cathedrals'
During the last decade attendances at Cathedrals in the Western world have increased. Many postmodern people feel that they want to belong to the church without being heavily involved. Cathedrals allow people to remain 'anonymous' or worship in peace. Cathedrals are also large worship spaces that 'speak' of the awe, wonder and transcendence of God., yet they need constant (and costly) maintenance programs. Seekers, tourists and those looking to find solace often find themselves drawn to this sacred space. But, Cathedrals are the 'mother churches' of the Diocese. How does a Dean balance all these conflicting views of the role of a Cathedral?
