Sarah Kim
Born in Cologne, Sarah Kim is a young Australian organ virtuoso of Korean origin, who is currently based in Paris. Since her arrival in Europe in 2006, Sarah has performed on many significant European instruments, including the Royal Chapel of Versailles, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, St Eustache, Chartres Cathedral, Schottenkirche in Vienna, etc. She has also featured as soloist with the Swedish Baroque Orchestra and the Oxford Band of Instruments, toured with the Reims Cathedral Choir to Strasbourg and Prague and performed with numerous Parisian ensembles, including the 'Ensemble Orchestral de Paris' and 'Orchestre Parismusical'. She maintains a busy schedule performing in various international music festivals.
Sarah started learning the organ at the age of eleven with Miriam Gaydon and continued her studies with Philip Swanton at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. During her student days at the Conservatorium, Sarah held organ scholar positions at the University of Sydney, St Paul's College, and St James' Anglican Church and performed with numerous Sydney ensembles, such as the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Sydney Philharmonia Choirs in major concert venues across Australia. As soloist she performed on the Sydney Opera House for the Sydney Opera House Grand Organ's 25th anniversary concert, the Sydney Town Hall, Perth Town Hall, Melbourne Town Hall, Adelaide Town Hall, etc.
After graduating with First Class Honours and the University Medal, Sarah was awarded a University of Sydney overseas travelling scholarship and became the first organist in three years to be accepted into the 'Cycle de Perfectionnement' at the Paris Conservatoire. There she studied under the tuition of Oliver Latry and Michel Bouvard. She graduated from the Conservatoire with a further Masters degree in 2010 with high distinction.
Sarah was guest recitalist in New Zealand for the Auckland Organ Festival in 2011 and performed Rachmaninov's Symphonic Dances with Jean-Baptiste Monnot at the church of St Eustache in Paris to critical acclaim. She has also recorded on the famous Riepp organ (1766) in Ottobeuren Abbey, as well as for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Later this year she will be performing in Australia and giving further concerts in Italy, Berlin, the UK, and in France.
Sarah has participated in numerous masterclasses with prominent organists including Jean Guillou, Ton Koopman, Michel Chapuis, etc., and has given several masterclasses at the Sydney Conservatorium or Music and the 2012 Oundle International Summer Academy in England alongside British organists including Dame Gillian Weir and Robert Quinney (sub-organist at Westminster Abbey and director of 'Oundle for Organists').
While still maintaining a busy teaching and performing schedule in Paris, Sarah recently completed a Masters degree at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland, specialising in early music with Wolfgang Zerer and Lorenzo Ghielmi. Prize-winner of the Sydney, Newcastle and Paris International Organ Competitions, Sarah is organist of Notre-Dame-des-Vertus and at St Georges' Anglican Church in Paris.
