Mandolins and Guitars Celebrating Q150!
A unique opportunity to hear the sound of a 70 piece Mandolin Orchestra – one magnificent concert of the largest gathering of fretted instruments in one place to tell the musical story of Queensland in a magnificent setting of St John’s Cathedral on 11th July 2009 at 7.30pm.

THE STORY:
- the discovery of Queensland by the Dutch ship “Duyfken”
- the meeting of European and Indigenous communities (featuring didgeridoo)
- the part played by ethnic groups in the cultural development of Queensland
- the secession of Queensland from New South Wales with only 7 pence halfpenny in our treasury
- the growth and development of Queensland to the present time
The performance features compositions and arrangements specially written of the event as well as popular favourites such a Vivaldi Concerto in G for 2 Mandolins.
The concert will be conducted by Internationally Acclaimed conductor Keith Harris; an expatriate living in Germany. Keith has established a wide reputation as performer, conductor and teacher of the classical mandolin throughout Europe, Japan, America and Australia.
We are fortunate to have wonderful section leaders who have performed with the London Philharmonic, Sydney Symphony and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Compere is Gary Thorpe from 4MBS
