Cathedral Completion Fundraiser Moves On

On Sunday May 6th, the Cathedral Completion community will celebrate the ministry of Fundraising Manager Peta Nagle, who has moved on after a ten year term in this demanding position. Prior to her work at the Cathedral, Peta who was associated with Everald Compton Fundraising International had run capital campaigns in Australia and the UK.

Her time at the Cathedral was marked by a number of innovative events. Peta negotiated a succession of famous faces on the billboard, including the visit of and subsequent billboard display by Dame Edna Everedge. She devised the notion of putting a giant red nose on the Cathedral to further the annual appeal for funds for SIDS support. She managed the propagation of The Rose of St John. Peta took simple newsletter Greetings and made a colour magazine appropriately named The Pinnacle.

The Loaves and Fishes Luncheon has become a part of the Brisbane social calendar. Serving 400 or more people in the nave of the Cathedral with fish and chips has raised a minimum of $100,000 each year. The highest achievement was over $140,000 in 2005. Distinguished speakers have included the Prime Minister, the Premier, the Chief Justice and the Lord Mayor. And her work on the Dedication Dinner will live on at the cathedral.

Her time in office saw the attraction of significant funding support from all tiers of government and from private donors. She developed Great 3000 project which had been originally suggested by Dean Grimshaw. She managed the buy a stone project and she instituted the Tower Club started long before anyone was even thinking of towers being built.

Perhaps her greatest achievement has been to foster a love of the Cathedral throughout the
community. The countless folk who in so many ways show their support by gifts and support of functions, the large number of people who have committed to purchasing memorial stones, the interest expressed by even casual contacts bears witness to Peta’s ability to foster relationships and share enthusiasm for this great and ambitious project.

Peta is active in the community. She has used her gifts and abilities in a wide variety of areas, including significant service as a member of rotary. Her graciousness, politeness and enthusiasm ensures that she will remain a much admired and loved member of the completion family.
