“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” (Colossians 3:12-13)
On the edge of a river, a majestic river red gum stands tall, its branches reaching out to embrace the diverse array of life that surrounds it. From the tiny honeyeaters sipping nectar from its flowers to the possums finding shelter in its hollows, the tree provides a haven for a myriad of creatures. Each species contributes to the intricate web of life, creating a resilient and thriving ecosystem. Saint Francis, known for his deep love and respect for all creation, recognised the profound interconnectedness of all beings. Just as Jesus welcomed the marginalised and outcast, we are called to extend compassion and acceptance to all, recognising that our differences make us stronger when woven together in unity. By nurturing a spirit of inclusivity and understanding, we create a tapestry of love that reflects the heart of God.
Reflection:
How can I cultivate a heart that celebrates the diversity of God’s creation, both in nature and in the people around me?
In what ways can I practice compassion, kindness, and forgiveness, even towards those who are different from me?
Prayer:
Loving God, help me to see the beauty in diversity and to embrace others with the same compassion and love that You have shown me.
