May 4 – The Grace of the Jacaranda

Trust YHWH with all your heart, and don’t rely on your own understanding; acknowledge God in everything you do, and God will direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

The jacaranda tree, with its stunning display of purple blossoms, offers a powerful lesson in trust and letting go. Each spring, the jacaranda releases its delicate flowers, creating a carpet of colour beneath its branches. The tree does not cling to its blooms, but rather allows them to fall freely, trusting in the cycle of life to bring forth new growth in due time. This act of letting go is a beautiful example of surrender and faith.

Franciscan spirituality encourages us to follow the way of the jacaranda, releasing our grip on the things we cannot control and trusting in the wisdom of the Divine. By acknowledging God’s presence in all aspects of our lives, we open ourselves to the grace that comes from letting go. Just as the jacaranda surrenders its blossoms, we too are invited to release our fears and attachments, trusting that new growth and beauty will emerge in the perfect timing of the Divine plan.

Reflection:

1. What are the things in my life that I am holding onto too tightly, afraid to let go and trust in the unknown?

2. How can I cultivate a deeper sense of surrender, allowing the Divine to guide me towards new possibilities and growth?

Prayer:

Loving Creator, help me to release my grip on the things I cannot control, trusting in your infinite wisdom and love. Like the jacaranda tree, may I have the courage to let go, knowing that in the act of surrender, I open myself to the grace and beauty of your Divine plan. Guide me in the path of trust, now and always.
