May 16 – The Adaptability of the Eucalyptus

That is why we don’t lose heart. And though this physical self of ours may be falling into decay, the inner self is renewed day by day.” (2 Corinthians 4:16)

In the vast expanses of the Australian landscape, the eucalyptus tree stands as a testament to adaptability. With over 700 species, each uniquely suited to its environment, the eucalyptus thrives in conditions ranging from alpine regions to lush rainforests. Through drought, fire, and frost, these resilient trees have evolved to withstand the most challenging circumstances.

As we reflect on the wisdom of St. Francis, we can find inspiration in the eucalyptus’s ability to adapt. Though our bodies may experience the passing of time, our spirits are continually renewed by the transformative power of God’s love. Like the eucalyptus, we are called to remain flexible in the face of life’s ever-changing landscape, rooting ourselves in faith and reaching towards the divine light that sustains us.

Reflection:
1. How can I cultivate the adaptability of the eucalyptus in my own spiritual journey?

2. In what ways can I allow myself to be transformed by the renewing presence of God?

Prayer:
Creator God, may I embrace the adaptability of the eucalyptus as I navigate the seasons of my life. Grant me the grace to remain rooted in your love.
