July 5 – Cycles of Divine Harmony

God has made everything in harmony with the divine; yet although the Almighty has imbued eternity in our soul, we are unable to grasp the totality of God’s work from beginning to end. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

In the tapestry of creation, the echidna stands as a testament to the intricate cycles of life and the eternal harmony that sustains all beings. This remarkable egg-laying mammal, with its ability to enter torpor (dormancy) during lean times, embodies the adaptive rhythms woven into the fabric of existence. Like the echidna’s periods of active foraging and restful conservation, our spiritual journey ebbs and flows, reflecting the divine dance of activity and contemplation. The echidna’s unique adaptation reminds us that even in moments of apparent stillness, unseen transformations occur, mirroring the subtle work of the Divine in our lives.

As we contemplate the echidna’s cycles, we glimpse a fraction of the eternal harmony described in Ecclesiastes. Though we cannot fully comprehend the vastness of God’s work, we can recognise its reflection in the natural world. The echidna’s life cycle invites us to embrace the sacred rhythms in our own lives, trusting in the unseen currents of divine grace that guide us through seasons of abundance and scarcity.

Reflection:
1. How can I attune myself to the sacred rhythms in my life, recognising periods of activity and rest as part of a greater harmony?
2. In what ways might I be resisting the natural cycles of change and renewal in my spiritual journey?

Prayer:
Divine Creator, help me to trust in the harmony of Your eternal design, even when I cannot fully understand it. Grant me the wisdom to flow with life’s sacred rhythms, finding peace in both action and stillness.
