November 16 – Rhythms of the Spirit

The Spirit, too, comes to help us in our weakness. For we don’t know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit expresses our plea with groanings too deep for words. (Romans 8:26)

The ancient Kimberley coastline bears witness to the ceaseless dance of the tides, a powerful symbol of the ever-present Spirit moving in our lives. Just as the tides shape the shoreline with their constant ebb and flow, so too does the Spirit shape our prayers, even when words fail us. In moments of uncertainty, we may struggle to articulate our deepest longings, yet the Spirit intercedes on our behalf.

When we attune ourselves to this eternal presence, we discover that prayer is not merely an act of speaking, but a state of being. The Spirit’s groanings, like the whispers of the wind through the coastal cliffs, remind us that we are held in a love that surpasses understanding, even in the midst of life’s complexities and challenges.

Reflection:

  1. How can I open myself to the Spirit’s presence in moments when I struggle to find the right words to pray?

  2. What might the Spirit’s “groanings” be revealing to me about my own deepest needs and desires?

Prayer:

Eternal Presence, help me to embrace the ebb and flow of life, trusting that your Spirit intercedes for me with wisdom and love beyond words.
