November 23 – Nourishment of the Soul

What would you gain if you were to win the whole world but lose your self in the process? What can you offer in exchange for your soul? (Matthew 16:26)

In the depths of the ocean, the Basket Star extends its intricately branched arms, filtering the water for nourishment. This deep-sea creature reminds us that true sustenance comes from within, and that we must remain open to receiving the subtle nutrients that life offers us. Just as the Basket Star relies on its delicate, yet complex arms to gather food, we too must cultivate an inner receptivity to the spiritual nourishment that surrounds us.

The pursuit of worldly success and material gain often distracts us from the essential task of nurturing our souls. We may find ourselves consumed by the desire to “win the whole world,” forgetting that our true value lies in the cultivation of our inner selves. The Basket Star’s intricate design serves as a powerful metaphor for the complexity and beauty of our own spiritual journey. By remaining open to the subtle influences that shape our growth, we can develop a deeper understanding of ourselves and our place in the grand tapestry of creation.

Reflection:

  1. In what ways have I neglected my spiritual nourishment in pursuit of worldly success?

  2. How can I cultivate a greater openness to the subtle influences that shape my inner growth?

Prayer:

Divine Presence, guide me to seek nourishment for my soul, so that I may grow in wisdom and compassion. Help me to remain open to the subtle blessings that surround me, and to find my true value in the cultivation of my inner self.
