November 9 – Small Beginnings

God gives strength to the weary, and empowers the powerless. (Isaiah 40:29)
In the vast forests, the Eucalyptus regnans (Mountain Ash) symbolises the extraordinary potential hidden within the most unassuming of beginnings. This towering giant, the tallest flowering plant in the world, emerges from a tiny seed. As it grows, it faces countless challenges—drought, fire, and competition for resources—yet it perseveres, reaching heights of over 100 meters. Its journey from seed to sky serves as a powerful reminder that even the smallest, most seemingly insignificant beginnings are imbued with potential.
Similarly, in our spiritual lives, we often find ourselves feeling small and powerless in the face of life’s challenges. We may question our ability to make a difference or to overcome the obstacles that stand in our way. Yet, just like the Mountain Ash, we too hold within us the potential for incredible growth and transformation.
Reflection:
-
What small beginnings in my life have I overlooked or underestimated, and how can I nurture them to unlock their full potential?
-
In what ways can I draw strength from God’s presence when I feel weary or powerless in the face of life’s challenges?
Prayer:
Divine Creator, help me to recognise the incredible potential that lies within even the smallest beginnings. Grant me the courage to nurture the seeds of growth in my life, trusting in Your strength to guide me along the way.
