December 10 – Humble Service

What you should do is go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your hosts approach you they’ll say, ‘My friend, come up higher.’ (Luke 14:10)

In the Daintree Rainforest, the Ringtail Possum quietly goes about its nightly work, nibbling on fruits and dispersing seeds across the forest floor. This small marsupial, often overlooked, plays a vital role in the complex web of life, ensuring the continued growth and regeneration of the ancient ecosystem. Its service, performed without fanfare or recognition, is a testament to the profound impact that even the most seemingly insignificant actions can have on the greater whole.

We too can make a difference by performing small acts of kindness, compassion, and love. These actions, though they may seem inconsequential, contribute to the intricate tapestry of God’s creation, bringing forth beauty, healing, and growth in ways we may never fully comprehend. By choosing to “sit in the lowest place,” we open ourselves to the transformative power of divine grace, which elevates and empowers us to be instruments of positive change in the world.

Reflection:

  1. How can I cultivate a spirit of humility and service in my daily life, recognising that even small actions can have a significant impact?

  2. In what ways can I trust in the transformative power of divine grace to guide and elevate my efforts, even when they seem insignificant?

Prayer:

Divine Creator, grant me the grace to serve with humility and compassion, knowing that every small act of love contributes to the greater good. May I trust in Your transformative power to guide and elevate my efforts, as I seek to be an instrument of Your love in the world.
