December 7 – Honey Possum

Those who claim to be in the light but hate their neighbours are still in the dark. But those who love their neighbours are living in the light and need not be afraid of stumbling. (1 John 2:9-10)

The honey possum, a tiny marsupial native to Western Australia, has found its unique niche in the world by adapting to feed exclusively on nectar and pollen from various flowering plants. This specialised diet allows the honey possum to thrive in its environment, spreading the light of pollination and enabling the continuation of life. Similarly, when individuals discover their true calling and purpose, they can flourish and make a positive impact on the world around them.

By embracing the light of love and extending it to others, individuals can illuminate the darkness of hatred and fear. In doing so, they create a more interconnected and harmonious world, where each person’s unique gifts and talents contribute to the greater good. When love is the guiding force, fear of stumbling or failing diminishes, allowing for a more courageous and purposeful existence.

Reflection:

  1. How can I discover my unique purpose and use it to spread love and light in the world?

  2. In what ways can I cultivate love for my neighbours, even those who may be difficult to love?

Prayer:

Divine Light, guide me to embrace my unique calling and purpose, so that I may radiate your love and compassion to all those around me. Help me to navigate the complexities of life with courage and grace, always choosing the path of love over fear.
