January 9 – Resilience
In anguish, I cried to you, YHWH, and you answered me with freedom. (Psalm 118:5)
The Inland Dotterel, a small bird native to the harsh, arid outback embodies the essence of resilience and adaptability. This unassuming creature thrives in an environment that seems inhospitable to life, finding sustenance and shelter in the sparse vegetation and rocky terrain. In the face of scorching heat and scarce resources, the Inland Dotterel perseveres, its very existence a testament to the power of determination and the will to survive.
Similarly, in the outback of our own lives, we may find ourselves faced with periods of anguish, feeling alone in a barren landscape of challenges and adversity. Yet, just as the Inland Dotterel finds solace and freedom in its arid home, we too can discover a sense of liberation by turning to the Divine in our moments of distress. When we cry out to the Holy One, we are met with an answer that frees us from the shackles of our suffering, granting us the strength and resilience to endure and flourish, even in the most trying of circumstances.
Reflection:
-
In what ways have I experienced a sense of anguish or desolation in my life, and how can I learn from the Inland Dotterel’s example of resilience and adaptability?
-
How can I cultivate a deeper trust in the Divine’s response to my cries, allowing myself to find freedom and solace in the midst of life’s challenges?
Prayer:
Divine Presence, grant me the resilience and adaptability of the Inland Dotterel, that I may find strength and freedom in You, even amidst the arid outback of life’s trials and tribulations.
