If you have more than enough material possessions and see your neighbours in need yet close your hearts to them, how can the love of God be living in you? (1 John 3:17)
The seagrass beds of Moreton Bay are home to a diverse array of marine life, from graceful dugongs and curious sea turtles to countless species of fish and invertebrates. These underwater meadows are not merely a backdrop for the bay’s beauty; they are a vital source of sustenance and shelter for the creatures who dwell within them.
Just as we are called to open our hearts and share our resources with our human neighbours in need, so too must we extend our compassion and care to the creatures of the ocean. When we allow pollution and sediment runoff from our activities to degrade these delicate ecosystems, we close our hearts to the needs of our marine neighbours, hindering the flow of Divine love that seeks to nurture all of creation. By recognising the sea creatures as our neighbours and working to protect their habitat, we embody the love of God and participate in the sacred interconnectedness that binds all of creation.
