Here there is no difference between Jew and Greek; all have the same Creator, rich in mercy toward those who call. (Romans 10:12)

In the vast expanse of the Australian outback, a remarkable phenomenon unfolds. Thousands of budgerigars, each with their unique plumage, gather in a mesmerising murmuration. As they dance through the sky in perfect harmony, their individual differences blend into a breathtaking display of unity. This natural wonder mirrors the vision of a world where all beings, regardless of their diverse backgrounds, are united by their common bond as cherished creations of the Divine.

Jesus embodied this inclusive love, reaching out to people from all walks of life and affirming their inherent worth. In doing so, he challenged us to transcend the artificial barriers that divide us and to recognise our shared humanity, knowing that the Creator’s love extends to all who seek it. Just as the budgerigars’ individual uniqueness contributes to the beauty of their collective dance, so too does the diversity of humanity reflect the infinite creativity and love of the Divine. By embracing our differences and recognising our interconnectedness, we can create a world that celebrates unity in diversity and bears witness to the all-encompassing mercy of our Creator.

Reflection:

  1. How can I open my heart to see the Divine in those who are different from me?

  2. In what ways can I contribute to creating a world that celebrates unity in diversity?

Prayer:

Creator of all, help me to recognise the beauty in diversity and to embrace the unity that binds all of creation. May my life be a testament to Your all-encompassing love and mercy.
