Anchored in Abundance

Or again, the kindom of heaven is like a merchant’s search for fine pearls. When one pearl of great value was found, the merchant went back and sold everything else and bought it. (Matthew 13:45-46)

(The Inclusive Bible translation uses ‘kindom’ to reflect our kinship with all of creation.)

In the harsh outback, a tree sends its roots far and wide, seeking water to sustain its life. Adapting to different conditions, its roots explore until they find a deep, hidden spring. Once tapped into that steady source, the tree stops its scattered searching, anchoring itself firmly and drawing deeply from the life-giving water. With this nourishment, the tree thrives, enduring the challenges of its environment.

Similarly, the spiritual journey involves a search for meaning, purpose, and connection to the Divine. Like roots, the heart explores many paths until it discovers the boundless love at the core of reality—the kindom of heaven within. Recognising this as a priceless treasure, the heart willingly lets go of attachments to drink deeply from the wellspring of Divine Love. Anchored in that sacred source, the heart flourishes, finding peace and wholeness that can sustain it through all of life’s challenges.

Reflection:

  1. What am I reaching for in my life right now? Am I tapping into the deep, nourishing source of Divine Love?

  2. How can I let go of that which distracts or drains me to focus wholly on the treasure of Presence available in each moment?

Prayer:

Loving Creator, help me to seek first Your kindom, to root myself in the abundance of Your love. May I release all that hinders me from drinking deeply of You, the living water, and anchor my life in your all-sustaining love.
