“Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.” (1 John 2:9-10)

In the vast expanse of the Australian night sky, the stars of the Southern Cross shine brightly, guiding travellers and inspiring wonder. These celestial bodies, though distant from one another, work together to illuminate the darkness. In the same way, when we love our brothers and sisters, we become sources of light in a world often plagued by darkness and division. St. Francis, who radiated love and compassion, understood the transformative power of embracing all people as family. By actively loving and including others, we dispel the darkness of hatred and create a community that shines with the light of God’s love.

Reflection:

How can I be a source of light and love in my community, especially to those who may feel excluded or marginalised?

What practical steps can I take to demonstrate genuine love and acceptance towards my brothers and sisters?

Prayer:

Loving God, help me to be a beacon of your love and light in the world, just as the stars of the Southern Cross illuminate the night sky. May my love for others overcome darkness and division, creating a community that shines with your grace.
