April 26 – Unfolding Potential

“And I am sure of this much: that God, who has begun the good work in you, will carry it through to completion, right up to the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)

In the vibrant gardens of Australia, the humble chrysalis of a butterfly remains hidden, gradually transforming within its protective cocoon. Franciscan spirituality teaches us to recognise the inherent value and potential in all living things, just as this seemingly insignificant chrysalis holds the promise of a breathtaking metamorphosis. Philippians 1:6 assures us that God, who has initiated the good work within us, will faithfully guide us through our own transformative journey. Just as the butterfly emerges from its cocoon with newfound strength and beauty, we too can trust in the hope that God will nurture the unfolding of our unique potential, leading us towards the fullness of life in Christ.

Reflection:
How can I cultivate a deeper trust in God’s ongoing work in my life, even when my own transformation feels slow or uncertain?

In what ways can I honour the inherent potential in others, supporting them in their own journeys of growth and metamorphosis?

Prayer:

Creator God, thank you for the good work you have begun in me. Help me to trust in your steadfast guidance as I navigate the transformative journey of life. Grant me the patience and faith to embrace the unfolding of your purpose within me, knowing that you will carry it through to completion.
