May 8 – The Kaleidoscope of Grace

“I begin to see how true it is that God shows no partiality—rather, that any person of any nationality who fears God and does what is right is acceptable to God.” (Acts 10:34-35)

In the vibrant depths of the Great Barrier Reef, a dazzling array of coral and fish coexist in a symphony of colour and form. From the graceful butterfly fish to the majestic manta ray, each creature is unique, yet all are essential to the health and balance of the reef ecosystem. The diversity of the reef is not a hindrance but a source of its resilience and beauty.

Franciscan spirituality recognises the inherent dignity and worth of every human being, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, or background. Just as God’s grace flows freely to all corners of creation, so too does God’s love embrace all people without partiality. When we open our hearts to this radical inclusivity, we begin to see the world through the eyes of divine compassion. We discover that our differences are not barriers, but facets of a kaleidoscopic tapestry, each reflecting the infinite beauty of the Creator.

Reflection:

1. How can I cultivate a heart that celebrates the diversity of human experience and recognises the divine image in every person?

2. In what ways can I work to dismantle the barriers that divide us and create spaces of belonging and acceptance?

Prayer:

God of all nations, help me to see beyond the superficial differences that separate us and to recognise the common humanity that binds us together. May I become an instrument of your inclusive love, celebrating the beautiful diversity of your creation.
