May 9 – The Healing Embrace of Inclusion
“Jesus continued touring all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the Good News of God’s reign and curing all kinds of diseases and sicknesses.” (Matthew 9:35)
Along the banks of a meandering river, the river red gum stands as a testament to the power of inclusivity. Its sprawling canopy provides shelter and sustenance to countless species of birds, insects, and mammals, creating a vibrant ecosystem that thrives on diversity. The river red gum does not discriminate; it welcomes all creatures into its embrace, offering a place of belonging and nourishment.
Just as Jesus traveled through the towns and villages, proclaiming the Good News and offering healing to all, Franciscan spirituality calls us to embody this spirit of inclusive love. We are invited to create spaces where all people, regardless of their background or circumstances, can find acceptance, understanding, and support. By opening our hearts to the marginalised and the suffering, we become conduits of God’s healing grace, participating in the restoration of a fragmented world.
Reflection:
1. How can I cultivate a spirit of compassion and empathy that reaches out to those on the margins of society?
2. In what ways can I use my gifts and resources to create inclusive communities that reflect the all-encompassing love of God?
Prayer:
Loving Creator, just as Jesus embraced the outcasts and the suffering, may I too extend my heart to those who are often excluded or forgotten. Help me to become a channel of your healing love, fostering a world where all people can find belonging and wholeness.
