May 19 – The Gathering of Hearts

Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there in their midst. (Matthew 18:20)

In the vast expanse of the Australian outback, we find the majestic ghost gum tree. Its pale, smooth bark seems to glow in the moonlight, a beacon for all who wander in the night. Just as these ethereal trees stand together in quiet communion, drawing strength from their shared presence, so too do we find solace in the gathering of kindred hearts.

Franciscan spirituality teaches us that God is not found in isolation, but in the sacred space between hearts. When we come together in contemplation and presence, we create a sanctuary where the Divine can dwell. Our connections to one another form a network of love and support, nourishing us and allowing us to flourish. In this sacred space, we open ourselves to the whispers of the Divine, discovering the beauty and complexity of life in the simple act of being present with one another.

Reflection:

1. How can I cultivate a sense of presence and attentiveness in my relationships with others?

2. In what ways do I experience the Divine when I gather with others in contemplation and prayer?

Prayer:

Creator of all, help me to see the sacred in the gathering of hearts. May I be fully present to those around me, and in doing so, find myself in your loving presence.
